  1.                  Purpura, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic
  2. SYMPTOMS. There will be bleeding of the nose and small purplish-red spots
  3. that are caused by bleeding into the skin. Spots turn into black-and-blue
  4. marks. There may be bleeding in the urinary or gastrointestinal tract.
  5. CAUSES. The cause of this disease is not known but it results from the
  6. spleen too rapidly removing platelets from the blood. Platelets are small
  7. bodies in the blood that prevent bleeding. A purpura that is similar and has
  8. same symptoms may result from use of quindine, quinine or chlorothiazide. It
  9. may also come from an infection such as measles. It will disappear when the
  10. use of drug stops or the infection is gone.
  11. TREATMENT. At times the disorder disappears on its own.
  12. .Your doctor may prescribe medication to increase platelets/reduce bleeding.
  13. .If the disorder is severe, surgery may be required.
